Do you happen to drive stick-shift or one of the cars with semi-automatic transmission? You would probably know it if you drive a car with manual gears (and if you don’t then I am not sure if I can help you…). But for those of you that are not sure if your car has a semi-automatic gearbox then check the automatic gearstick. There are usually some letters next to it.
Those same customers, of course being irate, came back to the shop only to find that that particular shop would not honor its “verbal” or “implied” guarantee. If you do however agree to a keystone body parts please do not come crying to the transmission repair shop when after the warranty you have problems again. He did go the cheapest route and you must understand that it comes with inherent risks.
Let me relate some of my own experiences. As a power washer and distributor, I see homeowners dragging in dead power washers that are only a few months old every week. These power washers cost more to fix than to replace, so my ‘boneyard’ is full of discarded homeowner power washers.
Remanufactured Transmission These parts keep track of your speed and the position of the throttle, and then decide when to shift gears. Newer cars have this controlled by a computer. Some problems are easy to spot before they get worse. If there is a persistent leak of red oil and you know it’s coming from your car, you should stop at your mechanic.
In addition, if a particular location piques your interest or seems ideal, but the pricing seems high, check out the competition. If other businesses offer to take care of the same type of job for less and another place’s fee is far too high, then keep looking. There are a lot of drivers just like you that are anxious about taking their vehicles to the mechanic, for fear of being taken for a ride. Do not worry about this; just take a little time to scope out the competition. Know as much as you can about typical prices for specific jobs and you will be okay.
Unfortunately, all great things eventually come to an end. The need for cargo space trumped raw horsepower. In 1973, my dad traded his beloved 1968 Shelby GT-500KR in for a brand new Pontiac Grand Safari station wagon. My dear mother was finally happy. Sadly, we learned the kid who became the next owner of our beloved Shelby Cobra wrecked the car while drag racing. I hope the car had a decent burial. As for the driver, may he rot in hell.
There are a few things you should consider as you look for a transmission repair shop. If an area does tend to be unsafe, try and find out if the shop that you choose would be safe to sit and wait in. Sometimes a larger city will have areas in it that are better than others. You should also consider whether to go with a franchise or a private establishment. In an area that does not tend to be as safe, you may find that a franchise would be the better choice. People trying to cause trouble might not be as likely to come to a well-known location. If you go to a franchise you might also find more standardized service.
Don’t practice around other traffic or on complicated terrain until you’re comfortable. Gravel is the best for learning because if you prematurely release the clutch, the wheels will spin on the gravel instead of stalling the engine. Learn the gears, their placement, and what speed you need for them before you start driving. Domestic cars can have different gear boxes than foreign cars. Know where you want to go on the gear box and how to get there! First gear is only supposed to give a car momentum, so change it as quickly as you can. Second gear is for slow “around town” speeds, third gear is for 30-40 mph, and fourth and fifth (and the elusive sixth gear) are for higher speeds.
Rather than trying to do this type of work at home, realize that it is a better idea to let the professionals handle it instead. Over the counter products are not nearly as effective. Additionally, mechanics who perform this service do not charge much more than the product itself will cost. That makes it a highly affordable solution, too, especially when you consider how it could help to improve your gas mileage and reduce the overall wear and tear on this system.
